Oh My Dolls! Museum: Remco Finger Dings

Here is an unusual doll who is part doll and part finger puppet!

Name: Finger Ding (series name)
Year: 1969
Manufacturer: Remco
Accessories: varied with each doll

Information and Description: I remember having a blue haired, flower themed Finger Ding when I was very little. Her hat looked like the petals. I also seem to recall one other doll with the flower theme but I can't recall what color hair she had. I think it was pink. The gimmick was that you placed your index and middle fingers into the sleeves which are the dolls' legs and then you could make the "walk". Notice the bottom photo where we can see a plastic molded body and elastic loop. The loop could go around your finger and the plastic body sat akwardly between your "walking" fingers. These dolls came in several series, though I never had any other doll except the blue haired flower doll. They had names like "Millie Mod" and "Sally Skater" to name a few. There was also a Pebbles from the Flintstones version and a Davy Jones version from the Monkees band/TV show of the 1960's.

I'm not sure how many years these dolls were on the market. If anyone has more info or would like to donate photos, please click here to contact me. Below I have one large picture of the two incomplete dolls in my collection. I never bothered to start to collect these but I did get these two for all of $7, so it was nice to have an example of my childhood dolls in my current collection. As for my dolls? They were sitting in a plastic carry case along with a coloring book, crayons and a few other items and were kept in the car during a long road trip. The crayons melted when I left the back on that shelf in the back window and the pigments stained the dolls' clothes and face and hair and they were thrown out. Needless to say I was in tears. A hard lesson to learn! Never keep crayons in a hot car!

These two dolls are in my current collection. You can find Finger Dings fairly cheaply.
