Welcome to the OH My Dolls! online doll museum graphic

When I first got the idea to do a doll website, one of the things I decided on first was that I would include an online doll museum to show off my own dolls. There is nothing a collector likes more than showing off their collection. This will be a very large part of the Oh My Dolls! website and will be hundreds of pages and always growing.

Another reason for doing this online museum was that I wanted to make a record of my collection so that in the event of my death, there would be a record of my whole collection. Imagine what family and friends would have to go through without this? Somebody would have to photograph each doll, identify them, catalog and price them. What a huge chore!

Having a record like this available for friends and family might make the difference between your beloved collection ending up in the hands of a new, loving owner, or laying in the trash or thrift store. And consider this: Gone are the days when you could find a rare vintage treasure at a thrift store. Today, every doll that gets to the door of a thrift store, be it Goodwill, Salvation Army or some other, is undoubtedly inspected and if its worth anything, it won't make it out to the store shelf. Goodwill has its own auction site but I also wonder how many times employees grab the stuff and list it on Ebay before anyone is the wiser. I knew a guy who worked at a thrift store and used to do that very thing (which he admited was the ONLY reson he worked there). In other words, money from the sale of your collection, that could have gone to your family, is now in the hands of a stranger all because you didn't take the time to safeguard your collection in some way.

Given all this, if you are a doll collector, you should consider creating your own records by photographing and identifying each doll in your collection, including where in the house the dolls are stored if possible. You should also give an approximate value so that whoever sells them has an idea where to begin the pricing/bidding. Keep backups of those files on multiple disks in multiple locations to ensure they get to the right hands later. I even went as far as to write information on paper and fold it up and put it in doll boxes and cases. I've got a long way to go, but I think anything I can do to make life easier for the inheritor is worth it.

Click on any of the doll descriptions below to go to that doll's page. Check back often. Many more pages will be added to this area! If you don't see the manufacturer heading you want, look under "other". I will add more names as I have more pages to put under that heading.
